A New Earth An Old Deception

Featured heavily on Oprah and touted by critics and readers alike, A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle is finding a huge following in the culture. Promoting ideas and beliefs that seem godly and good, this bestselling book is wrapping the country in a cocoon of sound spirituality. Or is it?

It may sound right---almost Christian, in fact---but something isn't quite right says Richard Abanes, the author of such books as The Truth Behind the Da Vinci Code. Equipping Christians with biblical answers and viewpoints, Abanes helps believers---as well as the curious---understand that Eckhart Tolle's message is dangerous.

Easy to read, A New Earth, An Old Deception is a concise refutation of the Oprah-promoted bestseller, providing a clear biblical response to this new age message. Topics include Tolle's misuse of Scripture, false teachings on God, the Bible's teaching on evil, A New Earth's version of salvation compared to God's plan, and much more.

Twilight's Last Gleaming

Economic chaos, immorality, cultural decay, terrorism and global upheaval have convinced many that we are living in the twilight days of America. Dr. Robert Jeffress agrees, but he is quick to add a note of hope and challenge to be salt and light as God‘s children in this world. Twilight’s Last Gleaming makes the case that although we cannot prevent America’s eventual demise, we can delay it…and make a difference for eternity at the same time.

“So that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as light in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.” Phil 2:15,16

YOGA and the Church

YOGA UNCOILED: From East to West

For Order Information click
on Image
From the cover: Many believe they can practice yoga postures, breathing, and focusing techniques devoid of yoga’s spirituality, not realizing that yoga is an inherent part of Hindu philosophy which teaches man and nature are one with divinity.

Today, yoga is experiencing a worldwide renaissance and in America has more than 70,000 yoga teachers working in 20,000 locations. Although viewed primarily as fitness instructors, these trainers are in reality the leading missionaries of eastern religion in the west. The twenty-seven billion dollar a year yoga industry is marketed to students, athletes, businessmen, pregnant women and senior citzens promising solutions for stress reduction, concentration problems, and issues of self confidence.

Once viewed by Christians as a pagan import from the East, yoga has now become mainstream in the church through “Christ-centered yoga classes” designed to help improve spirituality and experience “the presence of God”. But is yoga’s mysticism compatible with historic Christianity?

Video-journalist Caryl Matrisciana, who was born and raised in India, returns to her native land to search for truth among India’s leading experts and examines what Christian Yoga practitioners in the West are saying about their Yoga participation.

With critical discernment, this hard-hitting and informative DVD explores the ramifications of dismissing yoga’s core spirituality, and blending Biblical terminology and precepts with eastern meditative techniques and practices.  To order this DVD please visit the website below:

A Biblical look at Oprah's New Age Spirituality

Oprah, Miracles, and the New Earth

This was an excellent book! Erwin Lutzer gets right to the point and wastes no time in contrasting Biblical Christian beliefs and what Oprah and Friends, such as Eckhart Tolle (A New Earth), Ronda Byre’s (The Secret), and Marianne Williamson’s (A return to love) promote which is really New Age Spirituality and it is clearly not Christianity or representative of Christian teaching at all. This book makes this very clear.

When these spiritual teacher’s use familiar biblical words, some people may assume the meanings are the same as Christian teaching, but Lutzer warns; “Don’t be fooled because of the uses of words such as Jesus, love, peace, reconciliation and atonement. These biblical words and others like them are given radically new different definitions.” Pastor Lutzer’s apologetic is absolutely outstanding in this book. He points out there are BIG differences, and sadly many sincere people are being deceived into believing a counterfeit gospel. There are very real spiritual dangers in practicing what is promoted by these new age authors, and that is what this book best defines. Recommended reading

A Book on the Prophetic Movement

Why I Left the Prophetic Movement

The Author Andrew Strom tells of what he has seen occurring at a Conference in Kansas City and how he discerned it. He describes what he saw going on there was so disturbing, pagan and ungodly that he left the Prophetic Movement. Strom believes that the movement is dominated by a spirit of divination and fortune-telling, and believes that it is beyond reform.

We are not in agreement with some things in the book, such as Strom disparaging remarks about discernment ministries, who have warned the Church of these false teachings for years. But he does bring up some very important points and examines what is happening within the Prophetic Movement and appeals to Scripture. Strom gives a strong warning to those who have been “Touched” and who are involving themselves in the manifestations, visitations, and experiences that are occurring in recent revivals, and as to those claiming to be prophets such as : Todd Bentley, Patricia King, and others. Those involved need to renounce it, in Jesus Name, with your mouth, and then have nothing more to do with it!

There is a good section in the book on IHOP and the modern Prayer Movement and it’s “Bridal Paradigm” - the Romancing Jesus teachings that are promoted in popular Contemporary Christian Music of today, and how this distorts a Christian’s true understanding of Christ and God’s Holiness. Some are justifying their own beliefs in this teaching based on Mystics who are quoted and teach these beliefs and supporting it, they somehow believe that this makes it correct or that this ’Bridal/Romancing Jesus teaching is supported in the Bible when clearly these teachings are not in scripture. Strom plainly shows how these extra-biblical teachings can lead an unsuspecting listener to accept false teachings and can open a Christian up to unclean and deceitful spirits.

The chapter on why correcting false teachings is NOT a Matthew 18 matter, was especially helpful. One thing I didn’t like about the book was it’s critical references to heresy hunters, yet Strom’s own chapter on discernment is no different than what ‘heresy hunters’ and/or discernment ministries have been warning the Church about for years and have been solidly standing firm in the faith on the truth of God‘s word.

We bought this book in early June/2008, someone we know was involved with Todd Bentley’s ministry school and revival teachings and read some sections of this book to her. This helped the person to evaluate the teachings of this movement and reconsider their involvement, but for some, seldom is this truly possible so quickly, since the teachings, peer-pressure and fleshy appeal is so seductive. It is always advisable to continually pray for those who have gotten involved with these teachings.

The Truth Behind the Secret

What's "The Secret" not telling you?  (This Review is based on the Book Format)

The book “The Secret” has been selling in the millions. Everyone from Oprah to Larry King have had the contributing teachers from the book as guest on their TV programs. This book really breaks down what the Secret is all about.

What you quickly discover by the 3rd chapter of this book is--- the real secret is: who’s secret it was, (Hicks) and who’s message it originally belongs to. You learn that the message and teachings of “The Secret” is called: ’The Law of Attraction’ and was a channeled message through Esther Hicks by an Entity know as Abraham. Now how creepy is that?   Is this “Secret” really something a Christian wants to buy into? And if so, you just might get more than you bargained for. This and other spiritual concerns are discussed in this book.

Without a true understanding of Christian meditation, (which differs noticeably) from what is presented in “The Secret” a Christian could be easily mislead into metaphysical practices with harmful results. As the chapters go on, the Authors take the claims of health and prosperity made in the book “The Secret”, and examine the scientific claims of the “Law of Attraction” and reveal what a panel of Scientists have to say about this, and also examine the medical claims proposed by the book ‘The Secret’.

The Authors of this book reveal that: “The Secret” met it’s early success in the Mind Science churches, and at metaphysical bookstores. The authors write that TIME Magazine reported---"that before “The Secret” was a mainstream hit, it was selling briskly at New Age bookstores and New Thought Churches like Unity and Agape (Beckwith’s church)".

As to “The Secret’s origin of Religious teachings, it turns out that the booklist and the teachers Rhonda Byrne’s quotes in “The Secret” reveal almost all anyone needs to know. The teachings come out of the Mind Science religions, New Thought, and Christian Science and Unity. The doctrines practiced in Christian Science have been known to have dangerous consequences. Christian Science teaches that illness and suffering is an illusion. For the Biblical Christian, “The Secret” and it’s associated teachings should be Avoided. You can read the biblical warnings from the Bible from Deuteronomy 18:9-13.

A Good Biblical Defense

The Truth Behind Ghosts, Medium’s & Psychic Phenomena - Ron Rhodes

Christianbook.com

In this excellent book by author Ron Rhodes, he gives an exceptional biblical refutation and defense and gives biblical reasons why Christians and non-Christians alike should be highly discerning of what Psychics are promoting and teaching people to believe from their books and TV appearances.

A few of the questions addressed in this book are: Do ghosts in any shape or form exist?  Why is there a rise in psychic phenomena today?  What do psychics believe about God, Jesus, and salvation?  What is Satan’s role with the paranormal? How can parents protect their family from the psychic trend? These questions and more are answered.

The Occult and psychic phenomena have always been forbidden from the Bible, (Deut. 18:10-13), yet today we are seeing an absolute acceleration of interest in psychics, ghosts, the supernatural, and the Paranormal.  In the author’s observation of these trends Rhodes refers to “The 1960’s brought a massive invasion of Eastern Philosophy into the West…this openness to Eastern Religions was largely a reaction against traditional western values,”
What Psychics are promoting, Ron Rhodes warns, is ‘Another Gospel’ and is not in accord to the teachings in Scripture. In the book a few popular Psyichics are featured. You may have seen these Psychic’s books in Christian book sections of popular bookstores and other retailers, that is because some psychics say they are Christian, but what they believe is far from Christian theology and what is taught in the Bible.

Ron Rhodes is president of Reasoning from the Scriptures Ministries, and is heard on nationwide radio. He is well-known as a writer and researcher of Christian articles and travels extensively as a  Conference Speaker and Lecturer and is the author of many Christian books.  He holds a Th.M. and Th.D degree from Dallas Theological Seminary.
